Microfiber Bathroom Cleaning Tips

Because microfiber is a brand new technology for most people, bathroom cleaning tips for cleaning with microfiber are essential to help you get the best results from this earth-friendly, simple and effective technology.

For general tips on how to use microfiber cloths, visit Microfiber Basics.

Before you begin...Bathroom Cleaning Tips for Getting Rid of Stray Hairs...

If there is one thing that really makes me gag when I clean the bathroom, it is seeing my cleaning cloths covered in hair. Don't know why that is, but I hate it. Here's a tip I learned from a friend in the cleaning business...

Before cleaning the bathroom, go over surfaces that have hairs with slightly damp kleenex or toilet paper, and flush it down the toilet. This will pick up the majority and help control the gag factor.

Cleaning Bathroom Countertops and Sinks

Start with the sink area. Remove everything from the top of the sink, wiping the items clean as you do so. Then wipe down the entire bathroom countertop and sink. Continue down the front and sides of the cabinet. This is also the area where you may want to apply some of the great bathroom ideas for an organized home from my friend Beverly's website.

Bathroom Cleaning Tips for Tub and Surround

Turn the cloth to use a different section than what you used for the sink. You can stop and rinse the cloth out at any time if you want - just re-moisten with clean water or solution and wring out well.

If you are using the microfiber with water only, you can get right in the tub, or do it after your shower before getting out of the tub - a side benefit of not using chemicals.

Start at the wall furthest away from the shower head/faucet. Wipe down the entire wall from top to bottom, using a circular motion. If the wall is wet, you may have to wring the cloth out from time to time, as it doesn't work as well if it is too full of water.

Continue making your way around the tub - taking a few moments to pay special attention to the grout. Microfiber absorbs water, and using it on clean grout will help it to stay that way. As you get closer and closer to the faucet and bottom of the walls, you should notice that the cloth will drag more - letting you know where there is more soap scum or mineral build-up.

If you have glass or plastic doors, do those too.

Last thing on the walls - wring the cloth out really well one more time, and go over the chrome. I have one of those liquid soap/shampoo dispensers, and I wipe it down at the same time.

Re-fold the cloth, using a fresh surface...

Clean the tub last, starting with the part furthest from the faucet, top to bottom, and working towards the drain. As with the walls, you will have no trouble identifiying where there is more build-up, and when it is clean, just by how easily the cloth moves across the surface.

Bathroom Cleaning Tips for Your Toilet

Pour a large bowl of water into the toilet. This will force most of the water out of the toilet bowl, and make it easier to clean it thoroughly.

If you prefer to use rubber gloves for this, chemicals or no chemicals - please do so!

Starting with a clean microfiber cleaing cloth surface, wipe down the top and sides of the water tank. Then, clean the top and botton of the toilet seat, and up the sides of the toilet bowl. Lastly, the rim and interior of the toilet bowl. Don't forget under the rim too!

You should now have a sparkling clean toilet bowl!

Cleaning the Floors

My bathroom is small, so normally I rinse the microfiber cloth out well with a little dish soap and hot water before after I am done the toilet. Then I wring it out well, and clean the floor. This works equally well for any flooring type, as a well- wrung out microfiber cleaning cloth should leave almost no moisture or residues behind.

If you have a larger bathroom, a microfiber mop may be a more efficient tool.

Bathroom Cleaning Tips for Mirrors and Chrome

The last thing I do before admiring my clean bathroom is to dampen the mirror and chrome, and polish with a microfiber cloth made specifically for polishing glass and chrome. I love it because it leaves glass, mirrors and chrome virtually streak free, without window cleaner, or even vinegar.

On the way out, I pop the microfiber cleaning cloth on the edge of the laundry basket to dry, and it goes into the wash for next week.

When to Use a Scrub Mitt

A few companies who make the highest qualities of microfiber also make a scrub mitt with a safe scrubbing side and an absorbent microfiber side. Here are a few bathroom cleaning tips to help you make the most of it...

The scrub mitt works really well in those harder-to-clean bathrooms that have a heavier soap scum build-up due to hard water, a larger family, or less frequent cleaning.

Wet the mitt and wring out well. Use the scrubbing side to break up the soap scum circular motion. Then wring out well, and wipe down with the microfiber side to pick it all up and leave a clean pathogen-free surface.

If you have really hard water, even a scrub mitt may not be enough. If you need to use a product to break down mineral deposits, look for something that is kind to your health and the environment. Back to Microfiber Intro from Bathroom Cleaning Tips
